Photographing the sunset over the Nile in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt was a dream. I chose to capture the stunning scene on a Deardorff 8x10 Large Format film camera to hold the full range of color in the sunset.
I waited until the very last moment, just before the sun disappeared over the horizon. As I framed the shot, a small bat flew into the scene and gave the image a pulse of new life. In the distance, a felucca drifts through the light, offering a glimpse of what it may have felt like thousands of years ago, when pharaohs and traders traveled the Nile as their highway.
