In 2000, I had the privilege of photographing Blair Underwood, fresh off his success from Sex and the City, for the cover of Code magazine—the premier publication celebrating African American men's fashion, culture, and lifestyle.
The session was shot on an 8x10 large format camera using Kodak Tri-X black-and-white film, a choice that perfectly complemented the timeless, monochromatic aesthetic we aimed to achieve. For the final shot of the day, I introduced a plexiglass rectangular box as a prop, asking Blair to sit back and relax after a long session. This moment of ease resulted in an effortlessly cool and iconic image, capturing his poise and sophistication.
